sirius, obama, patriotism

we did the demo for the radio show yesterday and, my friends, we blew the place away. it was fucking great! everyone at the offices were fired up and full of compliments.

if it does not work out with them, i am thinking of shopping the idea to serius or xm myself or barring that doing a broadcast here on my website myself. to do that, i would have to upgrade considerably but this evening am talking to a computer whiz who may be just the man to do the work. we shall see.

what a win in south carolina tonight by obama! he more than doubled clinton and edwards. whether this will help him on super tuesday is iffy but i think his campaign just took a gigantic step forward. the thing about senator obama is that he can inspire people very much as john and bobby kennedy could inspire people and right now our nation is in dire need of some inspiration.

i repeat what i said orginally about senator obama, i think he is the man that can bring the country together. together, americans can do anything. we have the man power, we have the brain power, we have the technology power to make this the country everything that it COULD be. working together instead of fighting each other we can rise above our problems and our differences to advance all of us together towards a better life. a more prosperous life. a healthier life. an energy independent life. a more co-operative life. we have the power inside of us as a country to do all of that and i think senator barack obama is the man who could get us to use that power. power that is not used AGAINST other people but FOR people.

but, regardless of whom you support, get involved this year. we cannot continue on the course we are on. that course leads to destruction and madness. vote. work for a candidate. it is your country too. take some responsibility for it.

patriotism is not jingolist bombast, it is doing something to help your country move forward. patriotism is not littering. patriotism is being energy conscious. patriotism is being color blind to our fellow citizens. patriotism is in volunteering. patriotism is in a million little things none of which involves killing other people from other countries and other cultures. to quote john f. kennedy, "ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." some on the left think that any comment about 'patriotism' is some kind of move to the 'right.' i hate to tell you this, but love of country does not a fascist make. do i think america is perfect. fuck no. far from it. sometimes so far from it i could just stand on my rooftop and scream, 'WHAT IN THE FUCK IS THE MATTER WITH US????". would i, however, wish to live somewhere else? fuck no. am i willing to work to help move us forward? fuck yes.

The question remains, why is so much of the media supportive of Obama? Maybe they just like to pick on the Clintons. Or maybe they think Obama is the better candidate.

Could it be that they think Obama is the weaker candidate, and they want him to win the primaries just so he can be easily beaten in the general election?

The Republican strategy has long been one of reverse-psychology: praise Obama and laugh at the very idea of a Clinton nomination, claiming that it is exactly what they want. They say it would be so easy for a Republican candidate to beat Hillary Clinton. Clinton is too divisive. The Clintons carry too much baggage. Yet, if somebody really wanted a Republican in office, and really thought that Hillary Clinton could be most easily beat, they wouldn't tell Democrats to vote for Obama, would they? No, they would use all their resources, all of their influence, to create as much pro-Hillary, anti-Obama spin as they could. But what we are in fact seeing is pro-Obama, anti-Hillary spin. The Republicans are more afraid of Hillary Clinton than anybody else, and rightly so. She has the best chances of winning a general election.

You ask, what the f--k is the matter with us? The answer is that people are too easily duped by Republican propaganda.

Aside from Murdoch and Fox, you're not going to find any media entity with the clout to affect the elections that is conspiring in such a way.

This will bother a lot of people, but fact is there's just no non-Fox media conglomerate that really would want something like that. Most of the media is, by and large, either politically neutral or liberal. When the NYTimes endorses Obama, it damn sure isn't because it wants a Republican in the White House.

Hey Ron,
An internet radio show would be really cool if you have the time for it. Not sure if you heard of this or not, http://www.shoutcast.com/
That place is a do-it-yourself free internet radio service.
You could have your own show in a matter of minutes.
(just an idea)

spector,

you make some very good points and i also believe that hillary would win the general election against any of the republican candidates. where i worry is after the election, as we know, the right wing hate propoganda machine will be in full tilt boogie mode with her in office (not that it wouldn't try to demonize obama as well but i don't think they would be as successful) and it would work to devide the country. there are still some DEMOCRATS who believe that the clintons had numerous people KILLED/MURDERED. i know this to be true because i met a couple at an obama rally that said that to me and my wife. of course, there is an email campaign to get people to believe that obama is a muslim and went to a radical muslim school. neither are true of course but that doesn't seem to stop people from repeating them. but we shall see.

for j.t. thanks for heads-up we will check it out. i am beginning to think that web broadcasts may be the thing of the future, bypassing radio along the way. we shall see.

correction for Josh

The NY Times endorsed Hillary.

NBC is owned by General Electric, one of the biggest suppliers to the the Iraq invasion. They are making a financial killing. And you're saying they have no clout. The warmongers own the media, the media is for war.

Correction noted about the NYT. I meant The Las Vegas Review Journal. Typo there.

But saying NBC is for war because GE owns them is like saying you're for war because you drive a car that uses gas or (gasp) use General Electric light bulbs.

You REPUBLIAN WARMONGER! You're just as much as part of this conspiracy as those damn conservative wackos at NBC.

Well, based on the aforementioned logic, go ahead and argue.

...

Look, I'm not saying corporate America doesn't run the media. Of course it does, often benefitting from the same war its media outlets cover.

But that's one hell of a conspiracy to dream up, especially when the same media is covering the bejeebus out of the imploding Republican party. If they're really conspiring to throw the elections, then shouldn't the media cover up all the things going wrong in the other party's campaigning and hide them? It's the only way to get such a conspiracy to make any sense.

A conspiracy is secret and it is no secret that corporations making a huge profit from the war, in fact, own most of the media.

George Wallace, the late Alabama governor said there is not a dime's worth of difference between Republicans and Democrats. And then he got shot.

As long as we don't have a genuine anti-war candidate, the elections don't need to be thrown. Obama has quite clearly stated he will increase the military budget once in office, so he's safe. He's not against America meddling in other nations' business, he's for expanding it. He's an obedient corporate boy, calling upon Ronald Reagan when the need arises. And he disses the "excesses" of the sixties in his book. What excesses I wonder? Civil rights? MLK? Anti war sentiment? Marijuana?

Obama is so middle-of-the-road, he's perfectly acceptable to the establishment, which makes me wonder why Hillary isn't.
