let's meet in the middle

i am pleased by the results in iowa on several levels; obama and edwards were at the top of the democratic side and huckabee (more on him later) overcame the monied campaign of mitt the hair man. also, the turnout was very high for a caucus, especially on the democratic side. if nothing else the disaster of the bush years has energized people from all sides of the political spectrum to seek some kind of release from 8 years of war, fear, corporate greed, (dare i say the word?) recession, doubling of gas prices, (american motorists paid 400 billion dollars for gasoline last year, in 2002 we paid 200 billion) and endless warnings that we should be afraid, very, very afraid of a man who lives in a cave on the other side of the world and who has, at most, maybe 5,000 followers. i think and hope we, as a people, are starting to turn inward and look at our own problems, which are many. obama is rather "right" than most democrats and huckabee is rather "left" than most republicans. i take this as a good sign. the only place we can meet, folks, is in the middle. as i have said before, like it or not, we are all in this together and to quote one of the old men of our country, ben franklin, we shall all stick together or we shall all hang seperately.

i cannot pick a football bowl game for shit; i had vt and the over. lol

I'll agree that Huckabee is not as GOP-sleazy as Gulianni or Romney, but he does belive the earth is 4,000 years old and that gays and sodomites and scientists are going to hell, oh and mexicans and those who would have let Terry Schiavo rest in peace and those who would use discareded human embryos for research to end certain afflictions and those who think killing other humans is wrong and you and I too.

He's a Baptist preacher. Not only that, but unlike most "religious" politicians, he might actually believe the filth that right-wing Christinas say.

That said, I don't think he wins the Presidency, or even the nomination.

The only way a Republican wins the next election is if they produce Bin Laden or Clinton is nominated.

Wow, even I'm getting preachy.
Happy New Year

Planning to go again in March without the girlfriend, maybe we can get together.

brad,

believing in god does not make one stupid. not knowing that man is a primate does. thinking that the universe is 6,000 years old based on an english translation of an ancient text shows an unwillingness to think for oneself. thinking that jesus the christ would approve of capital punishment or war makes one incredibly stupid and dangerous to boot. huckabee won't win but it shows a lot about the people who voted for him. amazingly enough, he, with the exception of john mac, may be the best the republicans have to offer. scary huh?

to bigslick jim,

yes, i do indeed live in paradise and poker has always been good to me. when i get really good at no limit it will be even better but, even now, novice that i am, n.l. is very profitable. thanks for writing, next time you are here give me a shout on this site.

Taken from MNI
US POLITICS: Analysts offer their take on the Iowa caucuses -

From UBS strategists: "Obama`s prospects for representing the

Democrats at the November election have increased markedly" and say that

"perceptions of Obama`s inexperience could be viewed as a negative for

the dollar."

RBC Capital Market strategists: "Wins by Democrat Obama and Republican

Huckabee in Iowa have one common thread to keep in mind. Both espouse

economic policies that are decidedly populist which tend to be more

concerned with `correcting` short-term imbalances at the possible

expense of long-term interests. The Presidential races risk tilting

increasingly populist and short-sighted."

Next up - The New Hampshire primary January 8.

From The economist
Mr Obama has been a favourite of the media for months

Why has Mr. Obama been a favorite of the media? The media are upholders of the oligarchy.
Please explain what exactly you expect from Mr. Obama. He votes for funding the war in Iraq; he promised to expand the US military budget when in office; he has no single payer health plan or a health plan that excludes insurance companies. He's no different than the rest and in fact Hillary has a more liberal voting record in the senate.

I'd like to know how you came to the conclusion that Huckabee, a former preacher and someone who believes that humans are not primates, is more to the "left" than most Republicans. Please explain that one to me.

I'll gladly explain it.

At one of the early debates among Republican candidates, they were asked to raise their hand if belived in evolution.

Huckabee was one of the surprising number of those wanting to the Leader of the Free World that did not.

Then they were asked to raise their hand if they believed in the Biblical story of Creation, and Huchabee, again, raised his hand with the Xtian crowd
( I use "X" because these folks have nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus).

When pressed, Huckabee professed to believe in the literal interpetation of the King James Bible.

Most Republicans, belive in smaller government, fiscal responsibility, and a strong national defense. However, the knuckle dragging Xtians minority have blackmailed the majority by equating debate or reason with treason and heresy.

I'm not a fan of most Republican policies, but Xtian left is not what the GOP was.

Fuck those guys.

Fuck em.

No, really.

Fuck em.

(I'm not in a good mood today)
