dreams, roger the dodger, injured dogs, granite state

now on my third day of chantix and am smoking less than a pack per day, which is not good i admit, but it is better than two packs per day or a pack and a half, which is what i was putting away. they say that some people have vivid and disturbing dreams with this stuff, but what i am getting is just the vivid part. last night, in the dream, i was performing in canada and unlv basketball was showing on tv and carol montgomery (a great comic and friend of mine) showed up for the show. the gangster with the gun was subdued and thrown out of the club and had to leave town on the next train. all the while, unlv was blowing out north carolina. (that is when i knew it was a dream) lol.

roger clements sounded and looked like a big bullying liar on 60 minutes. the guy is almost done in his early thirties and then, all of sudden, he regains his youth, gets bigger and stronger and goes on to win multiple cy young awards pitching much better than he did in his twenties and early thirties. on tv, his eyes shifted, he gulped between sentences and he drank more water than a thirsty camel after two months in the saraha. hey, roger, go sit over there with that other cheater barry bonds. mother fucker. at least andy pettite had the balls to come out and say what he did. roger's excuse that he thought it was vitimins just doesn't make sense. and his tape recording of the trainer was so lame and even then roger never said, "why did you lie about me?" never once. mother fucker.

big surprise in the granite state yesterday! interesting to listen to edwards, huckabee, rudy, etc. put their spin on their disappointing showings. huckabee tried to sound like he won. amazing.

looks like the savior of the republican party, fred (what am i doing here?) thompson, may be gone soon and rudy is running the oddest of all campaigns.

michigan is the next big test for all, not counting the nevada caucus, which is going to go to hillary because of the culinary union's support here. while they haven't officially come out for her, they are going to, and that will move enough supporters to her side that she will win handily.

maverick, the great dane, was severly injured on sunday and had an artery sliced open so we had to stitch him up and now he is recuperating here in the house. the cut is on his leg so he cannot run around or play with annie d. dog and he is quite unhappy about all of this. he keeps giving me "the look" as if to say, "just what in the hell is wrong with you? how come i am not outside with my girlfriend?" also, i have to take him out to the back but first i have to lock annie up and then come back and get him and then make sure he doesn't run so i have spent much time out in the cold watching my dog take innumerous pisses and giagantic shits. today we go back to vets to check how it is all doing.... this injury came about because two kids were walking their big dogs by the house and they broke away and charged the fence. maverick was jumping up and down and apparently cut his foot on the top of the wrought iron gate. people should not be allowed to have big dogs that they cannot control. you must be able to stop your dog with your voice because a dog is much, much stronger than a human pound for pound. these were 10-12 year old kids walking 80 pound dogs and they had no chance in a physical contest. i couldn't control maverick physically, he weighs as much as i and is 3 times as strong but "no" means "no" to him and he obeys right fucking now. it just takes training. oh well.

blah, blah, blah.

Stunningly enough, Politico says that the culinary workers endorsed Obama today. ... Hillary's now probably going to punt Nevada and focus on Michigan and SC.

I'm hoping Obama re-assesses his approach. He's running a general election campaign right now instead of a primary campaign.

that is a huge surprise to me i would have bet money that they were going to go to hillary all along.

obama is running on a "unity" platform and has purposely stayed away from specifics as far as policy goes. instead saying "i am going to do this or that" he says "you and i are going to do this and that." he preaches the idea that united we can do anything, we have the technology, the man power, money, know-how and if we can add to that a unity of purpose we can accomplish anything. it is a message that i and hope we can respond to.

One of the best kept secrets in America today is the extent to which hope and faith are being used as seedy substitutes for action and reason. As they say in the 'hood, hope don't pay the cable. Someone like Obama functions as a political sedative. His message is that we don't have to worry so much about what's happening because we can let the future handle it. This is not audacious. It's either a con or cowardice.

smith,

so i ask you, as i have asked others who have written to me and attacked obama and, i might add, none have replied, "since you are not in obama's camp for the reasons you have stated, just who are you FOR? who in your mind represents reason and has a plan of action?"

the answers to complex questions cannot be expressed in sound byte answers. policy papers are but a general blueprint for the action required to address the problem chosen. the answers come when you actually sit down and start to solve the problem.. politicians have always presented their campaign pledges, hardly any of which are heard from again once they are in office. obama is selling unity and in the unity strength to address our problems. that is neither a con nor cowardice.

Has it not occurred to you that a lot of progressives might be choosing to sit out this election? Picking yet another corporate puppet is aiding the status quo. We elected a democratic congress and they proved to be useless.
Obama has said nothing of substance, his campaign is run on imagery and pure drivel, which I doubt he even believes himself.

Since you asked who I am supporting if I have concerns about Obama, the answer is Ron Paul. Unlike you, I do not choose to support a candidate merely on the likelihood that they can be elected.

Hey, Ron...
Cousin Vinny here from DMT-land.
Barb said you were getting some heat here about not cutting down past 1 pack/day. I don't see it in the comments here, and this is the only post that my Ctrl-F/Chantix serch brought up, so...if I don't have to be a 16-ton weight on some "that's not enuf's" head...lemme just give you a sincere Attaboy.

Quitting is a non-trivial proposition for most people. I have an easier time of it than most, but it still isn't easy. Let the molecules do their job, and you do yours. Barb and I got turned on to this stuff by my cousin, who was a nurse...then got a MBA...and until recently was a consultant to large medical org's on cost containment. She smoked in the 'hood of 2.5 packs/day for 40+ years and stopped in a few or three weeks mid 2007. She cautions against the "set a firm date" strategy that Pfizer suggests and says if you keep taking the stuff, which locks up the receptor sites before the smokes can get there, eventually all you wind up getting from the cigs is the true flavor and other sensory input they bring, which is (if they aren't serving a pharmacological purpose, which they can't cuz the chantix gets to the receptors first)...kinda nasty for most people. So, as an Austin 'toon icon used to say...Onward Through the Fog. Things'll clear up.

As to Obama v. Clinton v. Edwards ?
I don't trust Hillary any further than I can throw Bill. I've read some things about Obama that make me a little skeptical. For whatever reason, I believe Edwards has the best interests of the middle and lower classes in his heart and mind and would be willing to fight fairly hard for them. Depending on the vagaries of the primary results, it's not too hard to imagine him being a consensus candidate if neither Clinton nor Obama have enough delegates to win on the first few ballots. By convention time, neither of them will be in a position to be gracious, nor would being so be in the best interests of the party in the general election. I'm thinking that if this "last man standing" sort of scenario doesn't take place, we'll have Obama or Clinton as the Dem candidate. If Huckabee or McCain (or maybe even if Mitt or Rudy) gets the Republican nomination, don't you think Mr. Bloomberg is going to be severely tempted to come over the top (to use a poker phrase) and see what he can do ? Clinton's historic negatives...Obama's attackability as an unproven quantity...the general mistrust of Republicans by independents...if I had a few hundred million to throw at that table...who knows, maybe Mark Cuban and Larry Ellison and Bill Gates will wind up getting into it ???

Gotta run + do some yard work b4 the rains show up....It may be Sharkey's day today, but it may well be Oat Willie's year... Vince
