they are not asking troops to stay, that wouldn't work, they are forcing them to stay. breaking a promise and disobeying an order all at the same time. today's military.

There's plenty of legit arguments against McCain. Calling his decent, if not exceptional war record a failure weakens your arguments to "He's not a Democrat, so everything about him sucks".
Not too many of us gun nuts think that EVERYONE should have guns--Felons are not allowed, and he's on his way there. I'm guessing he didn't have a license to carry, or the media would have been all over it. There are nearly 5 million of us with licenses--We aren't perfect, but we do stupid shit like this surprisingly seldom.
If I were in charge of the death penalty, it would be reserved for murder while serving a long prison term. If it were evenly and accurately applied, I'd be fine with it, but not the way it is now.

i have great admiration for those who serve: my grandfather fought in wwI, my dad in wwII, my uncle won the silver star in wwI, another uncle was killed in wwII and i was in the army though i did not go to war.
john mc cain is not, in my opinion, qualified to be president of the united states. and for sure, being captured and tortured does not qualify him. it may make him a tough motherfucker but that is not a qualification for president. he overstates so many things (remember when he was in iraq and walking through the market and telling us just how safe it was....but then we found out he had 100 special forces men around him, helicopters overhead, a platoon in front and another in back?) No, that mission, out of 20+, in a plane that was deemed obsolete the same year he was shot down was not a success. He did what he was supposed to, and things don't always work out the way you expect in war--Sometimes the people you shoot at shoot back, sometimes you meet one who's better than you.

I have to assume that the polling was limited to the west wing of the White House. After 8 years of Wild Bill, I was excited for a conservative in the White House. I've not been this disappointed since "Santa" left a football for my sister, and not for me when I was 10 or 11. The crew running this country (both parties) are so disconnected, that the 2nd amendment may come in handy in my lifetime. A Revolution every now an then can be a good thing!
