You might want to turn on your comment moderation. It's under Dashboard > Comments > about halfway down the page. I had a similar experience and had to turn mine on. While the Internet(s) gives us the amazing ability to talk and interact with people we would otherwise never meet, it also gives people the ability to be assholes in near-anonymity.
